Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, the M.Sc. Degree in Signal Processing from the University of Nice in France, and the Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from the University of Toulon, also in France. He worked as an Observer and later as a Station manager for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (in Cambridge Massachusetts, USA) for about 7 years. He later joined the Geophysical Observatory of the Addis Ababa University as a researcher and was also an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics of the same university. During this time, Dr. Ghebrebrhan Ogubazghi served as the deputy leader of the Ethiopian Geophysics Project and was also the Editor, and later the Editor-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Journal of Science SINET. In 1992, Dr. Ghebrebrhan Ogubazghi joined the University of Asmara in Eritrea and was appointed as the Director of the Institute of Research and Development of the University. In 1993, he became the Dean of the College of Science and served until 2000. During 2002 -2003, Dr. Ghebrebrhan Ogubazghi served as the Director of Research and Human Resource Development and also as the Coordinator of Graduate Studies of the University of Asmara. In 2003, he was appointed as the Academic Vice President of the Eritrea Institute of Technology, where he is still working. Dr. Ghebrebrhan Ogubazghi was a Visiting Professor at the University of Kyoto in Japan (February through June of 2001), Visiting Scientist at the University of Bergen in Norway (September through December 2001). He was appointed as Associate Member of the International Center of Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy (1992 – 1998). He was associated as a researcher at the University of Toulon in France (1988 – 2000) where he conducted research in radar signal processing. He is credited for introducing the technique of Full Decoding of Truncated Ranges for use in Clear Air Radar Systems. With the cooperation of researchers at the University of Toulon, this technique was further developed and is currently used in many radar systems world wide. Later, together with Japanese colleagues, he introduced a new type of codes called quasi-complementary codes, which have very high interference suppression characteristics (for use in Clear Air Radar Systems). In Eritrea, he served as the Project Head of the Geophysics Project (1992 – present), where he set up seismic stations for monitoring earthquake activities. The Geophysics Project has made contributions in the development of the Eritrean Building Code, and advises various institutions in Eritrea for constructing seismic resistant structures. Dr. Ghebrebrhan Ogubazghi has several scientific publications in reputed international journals in radar signal processing and seismology, and continues to do research in those areas. His obsession is to promote the tertiary education in Eritrea.
